This 55 minute two-act DVD on the life, times and music of Scott Joplin features pianist/actor Dennis Kobray sharing the life story and toe-tapping rhythms of the man who became known as “The King of Ragtime”.  Mr. Kobray shares the story of this African-American musician, the son of former slaves, whose opportunities were limited by the rise of Jim Crow segregation.

The energy and “feel-good” spirit of ragtime music captured the essence of America of the 1890s and early 1900s.  Mr. Kobray plays eight of Joplin’s most famous works including the first million-seller in history, The Maple Leaf Rag.  With talent and determination, Joplin provided generations to come with a rich musical legacy.
