DENNIS KOBRAY
Born in Brooklyn, NY into a musical family, Mr. Kobray began piano lessons at age five. His early studies were with a Julliard School – trained teacher. He attended Brooklyn College where he co-majored in music and history. He continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he was awarded a prestigious full scholarship.
Prior to the creation of Meet the Musicians in 1986, Mr. Kobray was a music teacher and gave private piano lessons.
He has appeared on NBC’s Today Show and National Public Radio, as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. His programs are available on DVD and have been recognized with top honors by the Coalition for Quality in Children’s Media. Meet the Musicians has been the recipient of several grants from Commissions of the Arts, and Mr. Kobray is a much sought after school assembly programs performer with state and regional arts councils throughout the Northeast.
He is a skilled actor, gifted and delightful musician, who enjoys the challenge and opportunity of acquainting audiences of all ages with the real life stories of some of history’s greatest musicians. His school shows are of such a high quality that many schools invite him back annually, providing an opportunity for their students to “meet” many of the world’s most famous and beloved musicians.
Mr. Kobray is married to Gale , who serves as business manager for Meet the Musicians. Their daughter and son are fine musicians in their own right.
